Our hosts, Oliver and Rebecca Maxwell. |
Rebecca, Kay Larson and Diana. |
In Crosby's Bar in Ciudad Acuna Mexico. |
Everything is bigger in Texas. Even Mexico. A strawberry margarita at
Crosbys. |
A pensive Kay Larson wonders how she will ever stand up again after
drinking this thing. |
A pensive Oliver Maxwell prays that he will get out of Mexico alive. |
A pensive Mike Larson wonders how he will ever ditch these gals
shopping and get back to a drink at Crosbys. |
Our group at dinner at Memo's Restaurant in Del Rio after escaping
from Mexico.
Memo's is famous. It was owned by Blondie, the music arranger for Ray
Price.
|
We stopped at the Cook Shack to see what was cookin'.
Turned out to be Rebecca and Kay.
There is a deeper story here but it is not for me to tell.
|
This is what happens after the girls get warmed up and steal a
hat.
|
The marina at Lake Amistad where the boat was moored.
You can see how sunny and warm it is. Also how clean the water is.
I wouldn't lie to you!
|
See how warm everyone is? They are stunned by the bright
sunshine.
We found sunglasses, sunscreen and parkas to keep from developing
symptoms.
|
Cap'n Oliver can't decide if he wants to skipper the boat or repel
boarders.
He turned the helm over to Mike who did a great job as our
skipper.
Considering that he could have wound up as our "little buddy"
it wasn't such a bad thing after all. |
In the finest tradition of the sea Mike mans the helm and steers us
through treacherous waters.
Oh, heck... on curb speed alone he looks good.
Don't believe I ever saw a Cap'n in a Packers hat before. |
Oliver takes a breather. It's hard work supervising a new
Skipper.
Man, those guys could pack away the bottled water.
The drank some unusual brands like Tecate and Bud Light, too. |
Rebecca finds Diana's crackers.
I have much the same reaction.
No calories, no fat, no taste... no shit! |
Kay is overwhelmed by the sun and warm temperatures.
Nothing could get her up.
She must have been sweating in that parka.
Yeah, right.
(OK, enough temperature jokes already. It was
unseasonably cold and rainy. Rebecca couldn't be held responsible for
that. Or could she?)
|
One of my favorite shots from Ciudad Acuna.
"C-ya buddy, I'm outa' here."
|
Just some shots from Mexico. Ciudad Acuna is a nice colorful
town.
I had just finished an article about Pete Turner in a photo magazine
and was looking for vivid color and wild texture.
I found some.
Look on the photos page, too.
|
A very long story. That's why it is down here.
The guy who's face you cannot see behind the guy in the hat is A.J. Foyt.
If you do not know who he is, do some research.
Mike and Kay are avid race fans and were absolutely sure he was someone
else.
We staged this photo to get a photo of him instead of asking for one.
We were almost too late. They beat us to the door.
I think the guy in the hat is Foyt's body guard. I also think he goosed
Kay.
(That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.) |
