Sam turns 90
January 2, 2005

Only a week ago, it was touch and go as to whether Sam would turn 90 or not. He is the Energizer Bunny of Elderly People. Not much slows him down.

Yes, he is in a wheelchair but that's more normal lately with folks this way. Anyway, we got a cake, a few hundred dollars of balloons, some high caffeine soda that he didn't drink, and should have. He slept through most of the party but had a good time after all. (That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.)

(As usual, click on the little picture to see the big picture.)

This is a very nice birthday room.

Sam's cake was really cool. It had Sam all over it, except where the strawberries were.
(Except, also, where 4 strawberries were stolen before we got there.)

Every time I look at this photo, I hear Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen. Sing it with me... "Sisters, sisters, blah blah blah..."

"Happy Birthday Dad"

Sam is a little overwhelmed by everthing. The girls did a good job of throwing a party with Sonia's help. Actually, Sonia did everything.

"Chrissie, bring me the knife. The big knife!"

(I can't remember why Laurie gave me this quote. It is from a television show or movie. I was going to write something snotty but her way is better.)

The whole Barliant Family. Dad and his girls!

This is the real group photo. From Left: Leo, Greg, Barbara, Laurie,
Sam, Diana, Tonia and Sonia.

Sonia takes care of Sam five days a week. She also arranges cakes, decorations, signs, strong Brazilian cola and food.

Sonia and Leo, who takes care of Sam on the weekend. Leo also plays the market, does Real Estate and somehow finds time to spend with his family.

Laurie is laughing at a tasteless joke that I made.

Sam spent a lot of time sleeping. We all tried to wake him up and my contribution was to say, "Dad, wake up... everybody is here except you."

I didn't think it was that funny but apparently I was wrong.

I can't remember this lady's name but it is her birthday, too.

My second joke was, "If you change your name to 'Sam' we'll have a party for you, too."

Laurie thought that was pretty funny, also.
